Remember the panic when the first abacus was used? What? We can’t add in our heads anymore? Or the societal collapse when Lippershey applied for a patent for a telescope? Egads! That weathervane looks so much closer now! Or when we banished Wikipedia from our classes? Eminem is the voice of Spongebob Squarepants?!

Even after all of that, we’re still chugging along. We teach students how to use graphing calculators when they’re ready for it, we send students out to look at the stars, and we help students learn how to use Wikipedia in responsible ways.

Whether we’re ready or not, it’s time for us to do the same with gen AI. So join us and chat about ways to implement gen AI in our classes. These lunches are an optional component to the Spring AI Community of Practice, but all faculty are invited to join!

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine the ethical and academic integrity issues related to student use of gen AI.
  • Design an assignment that allows students to take advantage of gen AI as a learning tooI.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of student use of gen AI.
