SUMMARY:Navigating the Ethical Landscape of AI: Algorithmic Bias and Justice
DESCRIPTION:Navigating the Ethical Landscape of AI: Algorithmic Bias and Justice\nAs generative AI (GenAI) rapidly reshapes our world\, it’s crucial to examine the ethical implications of these powerful tools. \nThis panel is designed for faculty & staff members across various disciplines who are interested in understanding the ethical implications of AI and their work with students. No prior expertise in AI or computer science is required. Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on the future of AI and the urgent need for algorithmic justice. This panel will delve into the complex issue of algorithmic bias\, exploring how biases can be inadvertently embedded in AI systems\, and how they can perpetuate societal inequalities. We will discuss the concept of algorithmic justice\, which seeks to mitigate these biases and ensure that AI technologies are used equitably. \nLearning Objectives:\nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand and describe algorithms\, algorithmic justice\, and algorithmic bias and the disproportionate impact algorithms can have on marginalized groups\nApply concepts of algorithmic justice to teaching practice or student services\n\nRelated Tenure Criteria:  \n\nI. C. Challenge learners intellectually\nI. E. Demonstrate personal and professional integrity\nII. A. Participate in faculty development opportunities\nIV. A. Serve students\n\nFacilitators:\n Monica Twork\, Deb Moore\, Katie Fiorello\, and LTC Faculty-in-Residence: Angel Steadman\n\nModality:\nHybrid. Mt. Skokomish (8-207) and on Zoom.
